To the Editor:
Student Association elections are coming up within weeks (March 28 – March 31). My name is Ted Goodman, and I am a candidate for president of Student Association. If elected president, I will ensure that each and every student’s voice is heard.
We have a large commuter base, which in my mind has not been properly represented in Student Association. We have single parents returning to school to begin an exciting new chapter in their lives. Who is looking out for them? From the student-athlete balancing school with early morning workouts, to the international student experiencing American life for the first time, let’s bring everyone to the table.
I will talk with not only the SVSU administration, but Kochville Township to discuss what can be done to bring more parking to SVSU. Sitting around complaining about the problem does not get us any closer to more parking, but constructive conversations with the proper people will. The key is communication. I will exercise transparency, and keep the entire student body updated on the Parking issue.
Another issue is the housing situation. Let’s have open, constructive conversation so that we can all understand what is going on. Fifth year students have given a lot to the University, and is it right to force them to move off campus? Greek Housing is another issue that is important to me. Let’s make it a reality.
If I am elected Student Association president, the Student Association office will be a welcoming environment to all students and Student Association will be inclusive rather than exclusive. I plan to initiate weekly online polls, to see where the students stand on any number of issues. As president, I will work to put an end to ‘closed sessions’. Since students’ tuition dollars run Student Association, I believe everything we do should be made public.
I am excited for the opportunity to serve the students of SVSU as Student Association president. Voting is a rather easy process (online, through your SVSU account), and I would be honored to have your support. But I need not only your support, but I need your friends support. With the support of you and your friends, we can change things here at SVSU together.
They say that before you can represent any group of people, you have got to be able to relate with them. I can relate; I am an average SVSU student. In my mind, that in itself gives me the qualifications for the job.
